C U R R E N T P R O J E C T.

My current project is called " Hidden " and is my final major of this, my last year of college.

The idea behind Hidden was created when i saw an image of a spider up close and i realised how beautiful the markings on its back where. like, perfectly symetrical and lots of colours, dots lines and hairs. From this i realised that spiders remain mostly hidden to us, because of their size and because most people are quite scared of them, and i wanted to make their beauty more apparent.

They are such varsitile and varied creatures that can do such amazing things like produce silk that is so strong it can't be rivalled by humans, spine intricate webs using all sorts of techniques for different purposes and one even lives most of its life under water.

With this all in mind i started my research and primary design ideas and development into spiders and relating them to garment design.

Here are some of the images ive worked with so far

This in a print iv'e designed with the underwater spider in mind. The underwater spider lives ninty something percent of its life under water, using small bubbles of air it collects from the surface and attatches around its breathing organs to respire. it also creates a web that holds a huuuge ball of air so that it may stay under for some while. this print is inspired by that web nest under watet, today i paid £15 to print this onto asitate so that i can turn it into a screne for printing onto fabric.
i think it'd work best on a transparent plastic fabric with this minty hue.

This is a photo of a dead butterfly that my friend callum took and gave to me, i have sliced the segments of its wings out and laidi t on top of gold leaf. i like the idea of it being the spiders prey and making it a prize, i think ill use this and the two little dead bees i collected in a peice of jewelry for this collection.

These are both images of small sculptures i made out of wire and wrapped in cling film, they are supposed to look like little insects caught and bound in the spiders beautiful silk web. i scanned the sculptures in at a really high dpi and then inverted them ( the top two ) and gave them a monotone that corresponded with the colour of the hour glass shape on the belly of a female black widow spider. i think they are great to help me with garment contruction so i will be drawing and re configuring these images into designs, they may even work as jewelry too!

In personal news i found out today that i was offered a place at Kingston University to study fashion design! so im really pleased about that and i will get to work with my friends callum next year!

hopefully have more to post tomorrow.

au revoir.
